Sequential Extraction and Risk Assessment of Potentially Toxic Elements in River Sediments

نویسندگان

چکیده

In this study, the sequential extraction method was applied to extract selected potentially toxic elements (PTEs) (Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Ni, Pb and Zn) in river sediments collected from Blood River situated Seshego area, Limpopo Province, South Africa. The study aimed assess a possible trend of mobilisation these sediment water. accuracy confirmed by analysing sediment-certified reference material, quantitative percentage recoveries ranging 86 119%, 81 111% 77 119% were achieved for exchangeable, reducible oxidisable fractions, respectively. potential risk PTEs evaluated. calculated values contamination factor (CF) as well assessment code (RAC) Cd, Ni revealed mobility elements. are at high toxicity-risk level could therefore cause threat organisms dwelling humans via consumption crops irrigated with polluted

Study of contamination, sources and health risk of potentially toxic elements in dusts of Tehran’s elementary schools

Concerns about dust contamination with potentially toxic elements are especially important in environments such as schools (particularly elementary schools) because children are more vulnerable to contaminants than adults. Therefore, due to the diversity of air pollution sources in Tehran, the present study was conducted to determine the severity of pollution, origin and health risk assessment ...

Geochemical assessment and pollution of heavy elements in the Revenj River sediments in the northwest of Torbat-e-Jam

In this study, the pollution of the Revenj River sediments with heavy elements has been studied. Revenj River catchment with an area of 131 Km2 is located 20 kilometers from the city of Torbat-e-Jam (northeast of Iran). To investigate the contamination of sediments with heavy elements, 15 samples of sediments were taken from the area and analyzed by ICP-MS. In order to monitor the contamina...

Evaluation of Potentially Toxic Elements Pollution Indices in Rangeland Northwest of Chadegan city (Isfahan Province)

Abstract Today, the pollution of Rangeland soils by various destructive pollutants has become one of the human-environmental problems. Lacking proper management of organic matter discharge can also increase the concentration of salts, heavy metals, and pathogenic microorganisms. In this study, to investigate and measure the concentration of toxic elements, 128 soil samples of Chadegan region w...

Evaluation of stream sediment contamination by potentially toxic elements around mining and farming areas (SE Nigeria)

In this work, the concentrations of the potentially toxic elements in stream sediments in SE Nigeria were assessed for pollution monitoring in mining, quarrying, and farming areas. The levels of iron, molybdenum, vanadium, copper, lead, zinc, nickel, cobalt, manganese, chromium, barium, and beryllium were determined. The concentrations of the elements were in the order of Fe > Ba > Mn > Cr > Zn...

Potentially Toxic Elements Contamination in Sediment, Surface and Pore water of Maharlu Saline Lake, South - West Iran

Maharlu Lake, located in the SW of Iran, has acted as a sink for various wastewater discharges in the last few decades. This study aimed at assessing potentially toxic elements (PTEs) distribution in sediment, surface and pore water samples of Maharlu Lake. To achieve that, the samples were collected from each compartment and the total concentration of PTEs (Al, Fe, Sc, Cr, Co, Ni, Zn, As, Sb, ...
